Teen Spirit (Ages 11-14)
Turn it up and bring the energy!
Teen Spirit is for intermediate pre-teen and teen guitarists who want to dive into the world of rock and metal. Inspired by bands like Metallica, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Black Sabbath, Motörhead, Megadeth, Rage Against the Machine, Pantera, Green Day, The Offspring, and more, this class gives students the chance to crank up their skills while rocking out to legendary songs.

Who This Class Is For
This class is perfect for students ages 11–14 who:

Have experience playing guitar or bass at an intermediate level

Can play riffs, know their power chords, and keep steady timing

Want to take their playing further by learning rock and metal techniques

Are excited about playing with others in a fun, high-energy group setting
Class Goals
By the end of the term, students will:

Gain confidence playing in a band-style environment

Learn to perform songs from legendary rock and metal bands

Have a blast while building a strong musical foundation
Performance (Optional)
For students interested in performing, we offer optional performance opportunities:

Open Mic: All-ages, low-pressure environment every 2nd and 4th Sunday at Rose City Guitar Company.

Student Concerts: Summer (June) and Winter (December) concerts at local venues such as The Old Church, Alberta Abbey, Oaks Amusement Park, The Hallowed Halls, where students can perform in a full band (guitars, bass, drums) for friends and family.
Performance is completely optional and encouraged only when students feel ready.

Winter Term: Fridays, 5–6pm, September 5 – December 19, 2025 (students take a break for the holidays).

Returning students can also sign up for Spring (Apr–Jun) and Fall (Sep-Dec) 2026 terms, as well as optional summer workshops.

| Instructor Bio: | Samantha Russell has been rocking out on guitar and bass for over 20 years, starting in all-femme punk bands as a teen in Gillingham, U.K. She’s played in everything from the all-woman metal tribute band Snatch Sabbath to fronting her current heavy projects Thirsting Altar and Nocteris. With decades of experience shredding riffs, locking in tight rhythms, and commanding the stage, Samantha brings rock ’n’ roll energy, metal power, and plenty of attitude to help young musicians find their own voice and confidence on guitar. |
