Beginner Guitar Fundamentals - Phase 2

Guitar Fundamentals – Phase 2 is the next step for students who have completed Phase 1 or already feel comfortable with basic open chords and beginner strumming patterns. This supportive 8-week course builds directly on the skills introduced in Fundamentals 1 while helping students become more fluid, coordinated, and independent players.

In this small-group setting (max 5 students), we’ll begin exploring longer chord progressions, simple full songs, and the foundational skills needed to move beyond the beginner stage. Students will continue strengthening rhythm, timing, and confidence while learning how the guitar neck begins to connect together.

Topics covered include:

• Moveable chord shapes including power chords and introductory barre chords
• Reading simple rhythmic notation more clearly
• Reading tablature, chord charts, and song forms with greater confidence
• Two-hand coordination and synchronization exercises
• Longer chord progressions and transitions
• Simple songs that combine chords, rhythm, and structure
• Understanding the notes on the E and A strings and how they help navigate the fretboard
• Continued development of strumming, timing, and musical vocabulary

This course is designed to bridge the gap between “knowing a few chords” and feeling capable of learning and playing real songs more independently. Students will leave with stronger technical foundations, improved coordination, and a clearer understanding of how the guitar works as a whole.

What Comes After Phase 2?

After completing Fundamentals – Phase 2, students will be prepared to branch into our ongoing monthly lesson program which includes genre specific classes and skills specific classes such as RnB/Soul, rock, metal, blues, americana (country/folk), fingerstyle, songwriting, lead guitar, music theory, guided practice sessions, and more. We’ll also help guide students toward the classes and musical paths that best fit their goals and interests as they continue growing.
